Update:
DuncannonVillage.ie (known formerly as Duncannon Village Renewal) and the fishermen’s group have made many representations to the Co. Council and to political representatives over the past three/four years highlighting the need for urgent remedial work on the widening crack in the near quay wall.
Bridin Murphy, Cathaoirleach of New Ross District has informed us that engineering experts, Priority Geotechical Ltd. have been appointed by Wexford Co. Council to assess the situation with the separation of the quay wall from the quay platform. This quay is in regular use by fishermen and leisure craft users.
There is overall acknowledgement that remedial work done soon in a timely manner will avoid the need for a more expensive reconstruction job in the future.
Bridin tells us that the Co Council are hopeful that the repair works can start before end March. This follows on from the technical investigation and recommendations from Priority Geotechnical.
Among the other people pushing for this work are Verona Murphy, T.D. who has had a number of meetings with the fishermen, Cllr. Marty Murphy, former Councillor Michael Whelan among others and representatives from the Co Council including George Colfer and Alan Fitzhenry.
We shall keep a close eye on progress and update accordingly.
