Ballyhack Castle

Ballyhack Castle commands an imperious position on a steep-sided valley overlooking Waterford Estuary. It is thought that the Knights Hospitallers of St John, one of the two mighty military orders founded at the time of the Crusades, built this sturdy tower house around 1450.

Currently on display at Ballyhack Castle are assorted items of replica armour relating to the Crusades and the Normans –  guaranteed to ignite the imagination! This 15th-century tower house overlooking the Waterford estuary offers seasonal guided tours.

Colclough Walled Garden

Colclough Walled Garden is a beautiful garden located in Tintern, County Wexford, Ireland. This Georgian walled garden was built by the Colclough family (pronounced coke-lee) over 200 years ago, before 1814. The main features of this 2.5 acre stone and brick walled garden include curved corners and structures which split the garden into two sections. The ornamental flower garden is in the east and the kitchen garden is in the west. A river flows through the length of the walled garden, crossed by five bridges.

It is renowned for its stunning array of flowers, plants, and serene atmosphere. The well-maintained flower beds showcase a captivating display of colors throughout the seasons, offering a visual feast for visitors. An excellent choice for nature lovers and gardening enthusiasts.

Dunbrody Abbey

Dunbrody Abbey is a breathtaking example of medieval Cistercian architecture. Founded in the 13th century, the Abbey still stands with much of its original stonework intact — from the towering church walls to the peaceful cloister garden. Walking through the ruins is more than a glimpse into the past — it’s a serene and moving experience that invites you to slow down, reflect, and connect with Ireland’s rich heritage.

Duncannon Fort

Duncannon Fort is perched on the side of the stunning Hook Peninsula, County Wexford, part of Ireland’s Ancient East. This historic structure has gathered countless intriguing and awe inspiring stories over its 450 year history and holds one of the best vantage points to take in the beautiful Waterford Estuary. Hook Lighthouse

Explore the oldest intact operational lighthouse in the world. Purpose built 800 years ago by Knight William Marshal, take a step back in time and enjoy a guided tour hearing tales of medieval times and life as a light keeper.

Take in the spectacular view from the balcony with miles of sea rolling out before you. Enjoy the visitor centre with gift shop, exhibits and café. Guided tours are on offer 7 days a week sharing with visitors one of the greatest experiences on Ireland’s Ancient East.

Tintern Abbey

A beautiful and well-restored 13th century abbey, Tintern makes for a wonderful trip. Visitors to this historical site can view the remains of the nave, chancel, tower, chapel and cloister, with guided tours also available. The abbey is set in a special area of conservation and is surrounded by enriched woodland with some truly breathtaking walking trails.

Baginbun Beach

Lovely secluded and sheltered sandy beach on the eastern side of the Hook Peninsula. Baginbun beach is protected from the prevailing winds by low cliffs behind. The water is usually calm making it suitable for swimming, although care must be taken as there are no lifeguards and this is a quiet beach. Baginbun beach has a Green Coast Award which recognises beaches of high environmental quality.

Booley Bay

Sheltered by cliffs and containing pristine golden sands this west facing bay is known for it’s crystal clear waters. Booley bay is nestled in a gorgeous sheltered bay neighbouring Dollar Bay, and hosts a gorgeous, golden sweeping sand. Booley Bay has a Green Coast Award which recognises beaches of high environmental quality.

Carnivan Beach

Located outside Fethard-on-Sea on the Hook Peninsula, Carnivan Beach is a long sandy south facing beach. With cliff faces behind, a beautiful open view, and rock pools at low tide. Carnivan beach gets strong waves making it the perfect surfing location. It is suitable for more experienced swimmers.

Dollar Bay

Dollar Bay is a small secluded west facing bay on the Hook Peninsula. This beautiful bay is surrounded by rugged, grass covered cliffs that give great shelter. Make your way down the narrow lane (park your car in tight to the side, on the lane) to its picturesque golden sand and light blue waters. A lovely spot at sunset.

Duncannon Beach

Duncannon Beach is a mile-long, soft sandy beach facing south. Its sheltered location protects it from the strongest waves and makes it a popular spot for swimming and watersports. Cars are permitted on the beach to the left only, with a designated no vehicle area to the right. A beach wheelchair is available from June until August which can be booked through Wexford County Council. Enjoy wide open views of Hook Head and the Waterford coastline. Lifeguards patrol the beach during the summer months.

Grange Beach

Grange Beach is a sandy beach located close to Fethard-on-Sea, on the Hook Peninsula which merges into Banna Beach during low tide. This east facing beach is great for swimming and walking, with rocks pools waiting to be explored. Grange is open to the elements and great for wind surfing. Grange beach has a Green Coast Award which recognises beaches of high environmental quality.
